For those of you that don't know, Blendon Gardens is a landscaping company that is based up by Polaris. When I mentioned that I didn't like some of the contracting companies M/I uses earlier, I was talking about these guys. Blendon Gardens will be referred to from now on as; Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio).
So we were forced to use Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) for our landscaping because that is who M/I uses for all of their landscaping. We could have not gotten any landscaping and then hired it out later, which we would have done if we had known that Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) was as horrible as they were. But we didn't, so we got our trees and bushes from them, along with paying extra for raised beds, because in all honesty, they just look better.
Anyway I digress, We had 3 trees that were supposed to be planted in our yard. A pink crab apple Tree on the front corner, a white crab apple tree on the back corner, and a Kwanzan Cherry Tree on the other back corner. Keep in mind we closed on our home on Oct. 23rd, and these trees were supposed to all be planted then. We had the 2 crab apple trees, but not the cherry tree. So we let our supervisor know, and he called Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) and they told him that they would be delivering it the next day (Saturday the 24th). Hmm...curiously they don't work on Saturdays...somethings seems off. So we notify our supervisor on Monday that they have yet to deliver the tree. He called them back, and Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) said that they would be delivering the tree tomorrow, which would be Tuesday the 27th. Okay, fine, it's late, we don't have the tree, whatever happens happens. Tuesday rolls around, still no tree. So we let our supervisor know Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) never delivered the tree. He called Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) back and Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) said that they would be delivering it tomorrow. Wednesday rolls around, still no tree....etc. etc. etc. This goes on for a week and a half, until Wednesday, the supervisor emailed and asked me to contact them directly, because they had just told him it would be there tomorrow again and he didn't want to feel like he was lying to me.
So, I called up Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) and talked to our design consultant, Patrick Afourtit, who was very professional and explained to me that they had delivered the aforementioned tree on Oct. 22nd....what what!? <- Yeah Double punctuation. I then informed him that regardless of his paperwork, we didn't have the tree. So he transferred me over to Andy Coffey (Not sure of the spelling because I only talked to him on the phone). Andy said they had delivered the tree on the 22nd. When I informed him that I didn't have the tree, he said that he would look into it, and call me back. This was sometime in the afternoon, around 1 or 2 if I remember right. I didn't hear from him the rest of the day. And so I called him back on Thursday to ask what he found out. He notified me that they had in fact delivered our tree...BUT, they had put it in the front yard. Yeah, that's right the front yard, for a tree that was supposed to be planted off the back left corner of our yard. They didn't even get it on the correct side of the house. So I asked him when they were going to come move it. He told me that they would be able to come out on Friday and I asked him how could I be sure since they had already said they would be coming out everyday for 2 weeks, he asked when we were told that, and I told him that I had the supervisor call over. He then told me that he hadn't talked to that particular supervisor in about a week. That's lie #1. So that's great, I let my manager know that I would be working from home on Friday so that I could be there when they moved the tree and make sure they didn't misplace it again. At 7:45 A.M. Andy called me and guaranteed me that they would be there on Friday to transplant this tree that they had misplaced. All day long I sat there and watched out our front window to see if anyone was digging up the tree. No one came...all day long. That's lie #2 (and the biggest one in my opinion, since it was accompanied by a "guarantee". So at 4:30 I called in, and of course no one answered, so I left a voice mail requesting to speak to Andy's manager or supervisor because of the poor customer service I had thus far received. What a way to ruin my weekend, being lied to by a supposedly reputable company, Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) have now shattered my opinion of everyone that is supposed to be coming to fix stuff at my house. Moving onward. I received no calls over the weekend from Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) so I assume that Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) only works during the week. On Monday, at 7:45 A.M. I get a call from Andy at Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio). He said that he was notified that I wished to be contacted. I told him that I would like to speak with his manager or supervisor, because I was through working with him. When he asked why, I told him it was because he lied to me, and I was done working with him. He asked how he lied to me, and I told him that they never showed up on Friday to transplant the tree. So he told me that I could speak with his manager as soon as he found out what happened, and hung up. He called me back 5 minutes later and said that he had the guy that was supposed to have been at my house on Friday in front of him. He said that the guys showed up to my house on Friday afternoon, lie #3, and that they were pulled off of the job by the supervisor in Pinnacle and told to go do 2 other jobs, that's lie #4. I told him that they never showed up at my house at all, because I had to take the day off work so I could be sure that they put the tree in the right spot. He then had the nerve to ask my why I would take the day off work. So I told him that it's none of his business when I use my vacation time, or working from home privileges, but I did it so I could be sure they didn't misplace the tree again. Then Andy said that his guys were actually on a different job when the supervisor came over and told them to skip our house and do the 2 other jobs, lie #5. I told him that regardless of what he said about being pulled off of our job, he gave me his "guarantee" that they would be there on Friday, and they weren't there, so I wanted to speak to his manager because he had lied to me. He told me that he didn't lie to me, because the guys DID show up to do the job, but they got pulled off, lie #6 (remember how he said earlier that they never made it, but were pulled off before they got there). I told him that it's not my problem that they got pulled off, if they got pulled off, because he gave me his "guarantee". This went on for a few minutes, of him telling me that he didn't lie, and me proving that he did before he finally said, and I quote "Mr. Dingus, do you Enjoy arguing with me?" At this point I was flabbergasted...Do I enjoy arguing with a liar? No not at all, Do I enjoy trying to get someone to do their job? No, not at all, Do I enjoy getting my blood pressure skyrocketing because someone has failed to provide me what I paid for? No, not at all. So I told him that I do not enjoy arguing with him, I just really wished he wouldn't have lied to me and that he has to do something to make it right. He asked me what I was expecting. I told him to leave the tree in the front yard alone so that they wouldn't be tearing up my front yard as well, and then to bring me the tree that they were supposed to have brought and planted in the back corner. He told me that there was no way they were going to give me a $400 dollar tree. I told him that I didn't care about the fact that they over charge for their trees, and they had to do something to make up for all of the time I've spent trying to get them to do their job. So he told me that he would "touch up my mulch" I told him I didn't care what they did anymore, that since they've already lied to me so much I didn't expect anything to happen. I asked him when they would be there, and he said that he "guaranteed" that they would be there first thing in the morning that day. So I told him, "yeah, as if your guarantees mean anything at all when you don't even own up to your mistake in the first place". We then said our good-byes and hung up. I got ready, and went off to work, because I can't just stay home every time they "guarantee" that they will show up.
When I get home that evening, I notice that the tree from our front yard is in fact not in our front yard anymore, which is great news! So I walk around to the back yard where the tree is supposed to be. Thankfully the tree is there! However, the beds aren't raised like they're supposed to be...and the tree is only 4 feet from the house, instead of the 7 that it is supposed to be.
At the time that I'm writing this blog, we still don't have the raised beds, or the tree exactly where it is supposed to be. I've given up...Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) has broken my landscaping spirit, as long as they get the raised beds over there that they are supposed to have I will consider this whole thing finished, if nothing else because I'm tired of dealing with a company that allows it's employees to lie to the customer, and continuously does a poor job.
Whew...that was a longer post than I expected, glad I separated it out from the others. I'm not going to say that everyone at Blendon Gardens (The Worst Company in Central Ohio) is as unprofessional as the guy that I worked with, because Patrick, our design consultant did help us through the whole process of picking the proper trees and shrubs.
From here on out...Happy posts about how great it is to own a home!!! I am (Hopefully) done dealing with incompetent companies, and will definitely be keeping in mind the service I've received from the companies I've worked with...and spreading the word as I am doing here!
